Welcome to Penn Scripter's Ramblings
Penn Scripter - Unexpected Paranormal Romance
Stephanie and I were mulling over great demons in fiction and came up with a list of books worthy of reading twice (if you dare!). We both write about demons, and some influenced us more than others about our own demons we write. And yes, we snuck in a few of ours, but why not? After all, they are books about great demons. Read on! The Exorcist by William Peter Blatt The novel was inspired by a 1949 case of demonic possession and exorcism that the author heard about while a student at Georgetown University in 1950. The book details the demonic possession of eleven-year-old Regan MacNeil, the daughter of a famous actress, and the two priests who attempt to rid her of the demon. The demon changes Regan’s physical appearance and forces her to become aggressively violent and dangerous. It’s a scary one if you haven’t read it or watched the movie based on it. Demon Seed by Dean Koontz This was my introduction to Dean Koontz. It was scary. A computer with human-like qualities of artificial intelligence develops criminal obsessions and takes over the completely automated home of a woman named Susan Harris. It has an ultimate and horrifying goal. Salem’s Lot by Stephen KingNo list about demons is complete without Stephen King. Besides this one, there are numerous others like The Shining and IT. Oh heck, most of his stories are demonic! Anyway, Salem’s Lot was my intro to King and focuses on one of the scariest vampires ever. For a Few Demons More by Kim HarrisonRachel Morgan manages to stay ahead of trouble even though she is dating one vampire and living with another. But then a fiendish serial killer stalks the Hollows, and no one living in or around Cincinnati—human, inhuman, or undead—is safe, especially Rachel. This kicks off one of the great series I've ever read. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley JacksonThis creeper follows a man’s journeys inside a supposedly haunted residence with a paranormal researcher and his two assistants. The entity that lurks inside Hill House isn’t interested in letting its visitors go. Ever. And it will do anything to make them a permanent fixture in the home. Come Closer by Sara GranAmanda is a woman who has everything good — career, marriage, and a stable home. But when each area of her life becomes erratic and begins to disintegrate, Amanda realizes that something incredibly old and evil may be at work. Frightening. The Snow Blood Series and the Moon Blood Series – two 5-book series by Carol McKibbenThese are stories of the original vampire (taken from the Vampire Bible) and his progeny as told through the eyes of vampire canines. These short books are inundated with demons of all manner. The Demon of Reginhart by Penn ScripterThis one has three entities in one! No kidding. One favors the physical attributes of an exceptionally large man… quite something… and within him are two more – a mage and a bloodthirsty demon. He fights to control them and prevent them from destroying each other and him. It answers the question: Can demons fall in love? This one features a lot of creatures too. So, we advise you pick the most appealing one and curl up for a thrill ride!
Unexpectedly yours,

My high school, located in Georgetown(DC),was down the street from THE steps. I also worked near were the boy (yes it was a joy, they changed the sex for the movie) and his mother lived (no she wasn't famous). Anyway, I had to see movie 3 times before I saw the entire movie, as I kept covering my eyes.

I saw Demon Seed on the screen before I read it. I thought it was great. Of course, it goes without saying, that all your demons were awesome. Have to be honest I didn't read the others on list, as I'm not into scary.

I read the book after I saw the movie. Thanks for liking our demons! The book that terrified me the most was Stephen King's Salem's Lot. I would jump at any noise when I was reading it! You could have fooled me that you aren't into scary!

I’ve seen both The Exorcist and Salem’s Lot. Read Salem’s Lot and For a Few Dollars More. I didn’t sleep well from seeing both movies. That was years ago and going to watch Salem’s Lot again. It’s one of my favorite movies.

When I was a teen, Demon Seedtl was one of the scariest books I'd read. The movie was okay, not as scary but good.
